Common questions
I got a new phone. Is my history gone?
On iPhone: if you were signed into the same iCloud account, your counter and run history sync automatically. Journal entries and notes do not sync — that is the trade for them never touching a server of ours. Neither do your people, the meetings you logged or your plans. If you set up the new iPhone from a backup of the old one, or transfer straight from it, they can come across with the rest of the phone. Export before you switch as well: it is free, and it is in the app under You.
On Android: nothing syncs. From Android 9, if the old phone has a screen lock and its backup is on, the phone’s own backup can keep a copy in your Google account, end-to-end encrypted with that screen lock, and a new phone restored from it can bring the app’s records back. Setting up the new phone straight from the old one carries the same records. From a phone on Android 8, neither carries anything. Export before you switch as well. It is free, under You.
Is Limiter on Android?
Yes. Limiter is on Google Play and needs Android 8.0 or later. It keeps everything on the phone, and there is no sync. The phone’s own backup can carry a copy to your Google account, end-to-end encrypted, and only when the phone can encrypt it. Everything in it is free right now.
Does Limiter read my contacts or my calls?
No. You type in the names and numbers of your people yourself. Calls and texts go through your phone’s own apps, and Limiter sees nothing of them. At most, it notes that you tapped the button.
Where do the meetings come from?
From each fellowship’s own directory: 12,413 meetings from seven fellowships, bundled into the app so the list works with no signal. For Gam-Anon and Marijuana Anonymous, the app links to each one’s own meeting finder. Times come from each fellowship’s own listing, so check the link before you travel.
Can you recover something I deleted?
No. We have no copy of it. That is the point, and it is the honest cost of the design.
Why does the app not have a community?
Because a moderation system is a mechanism that can delete what you wrote, and because the research on this app category is full of people who lost years of their own writing to a ban they could not appeal.
How do I cancel?
On iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions, on your device. Nothing is held back if you do. Everything free stays free.
On Android there is nothing to cancel. The Android app has no subscription.
